India Launches ‘Study in India’ Campaign

Context:

India has launched its ‘Study in India’ campaign at the 20th International Education Show in Sharjah, aiming to attract international students to its universities. ‘

  • Organised by EdCIL, a Miniratna company under the Ministry of Education, the initiative seeks to establish India as a prominent global education hub.
  • The India Pavilion at Expo Centre Sharjah was inaugurated by the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Deputy Consul General of India in Dubai.

 

Key Highlights:

  • The Study in India program showcases over 590 Indian universities and institutions, offering a diverse range of courses along with exclusive benefits like fee waivers and scholarships for international students. 
  • This initiative underscores India’s commitment to providing quality education at affordable prices, particularly appealing to students from developing nations.
  • Executive Director of EdCIL, highlighted the Study in India portal, a centralised platform designed to simplify the application process for international students. 
  • The portal allows students to explore programs, apply to multiple institutions, and manage their visa processes seamlessly.

 

Rising Global Presence:

  • India’s higher education sector is the second largest in the world and continues to climb in global rankings. 
  • With renowned institutions such as IISc Bangalore, the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), National Institutes of Technology (NITs), and Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs), India is increasingly attractive for students seeking affordable, high-quality education. 
  • The program has already drawn over 69,000 students for the 2024-25 academic year, with 4,000 students in India.

 

International Education Show:

  • The International Education Show, organised in collaboration with the Sharjah Private Education Authority, is one of the fastest-growing higher education exhibitions. 
  • It features over 100 universities and institutions from more than 20 countries, including India, Canada, the UK, and more, making it a significant platform for educational exchange and collaboration.

 

About Study in India (SII)

    • Launched on April 18, 2018, under the Ministry of Education.
    • The program operates through a centralised online portal where foreign students can apply to over 160 top Indian institutes, including prestigious ones like IITs, NITs, and IISc.
  • Features:

    • Diverse Course Offerings: Students can choose from more than 2,600 courses across various disciplines, catering to a wide range of academic interests.
    • Study in India Scholarship: Worth USD 3,200, this scholarship is awarded to meritorious students based on their scores in the PRAGATII Exam.
    • Fee Waivers: For those not receiving the scholarship, institutions offer fee waivers across three categories, making education more accessible.
