Indrajaal Ranger
Indrajaal Ranger
Context: In response to increasing drone threats, Indrajaal Drone Defence has unveiled the ‘Indrajaal Ranger’, India’s first fully mobile, AI-enabled Anti-Drone Patrol Vehicle (ADPV).
What is Indrajaal Ranger?
- The Indrajaal Ranger is India’s first fully mobile, AI-integrated Anti-Drone Patrol Vehicle (ADPV) designed to detect, track, and neutralise hostile drones in real time, even while the vehicle is moving.
- Unlike traditional stationary or fixed vehicle-mounted systems, the Ranger provides continuous protection for mobile convoys and patrols.
- It is intended for deployment in high-risk areas such as border corridors, forward operating bases, and critical infrastructure zones, filling gaps left by immobile defence systems.
What are its other crucial features?
- Extended Detection Range: Capable of 360° detection and tracking of drones at distances of 8–10 km.
- Multi-Layered Neutralisation: Equipped with an integrated cyber takeover unit, GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) spoofing, RF (Radio Frequency) jamming, and a spring-loaded kill switch for rapid deactivation.
- Combat Envelope: Can engage and neutralise rogue drones within a 4 km radius.
- Autonomous AI Operation: AI enables autonomous detection, tracking, and response, reducing operator workload and improving reaction speed.
- Mobility & Rapid Deployment: Designed for quick mobilisation in varied terrains, ensuring immediate response to emerging threats.
How can it deter drone attacks?
The Ranger acts as a deterrent through several mechanisms:
- Proactive Mobile Defence: Its ability to operate on the move allows it to intercept drones before they reach their target, especially in dynamic situations like moving convoys.
- Jamming and Spoofing: By disrupting drone command signals and GPS navigation, it can force drones to land or return to their point of origin.
- Swift Neutralisation: The spring-loaded kill switch and cyber takeover provide quick, controlled elimination with minimal collateral damage.
- Psychological Deterrence: The visible presence of a mobile counter-drone system can discourage adversaries from attempting drone incursions in monitored zones.
What are other anti-drone deterrence technologies?
- Static Drone Jammers: Fixed installations that disrupt RF and GNSS signals within a designated area.
- Drone Detection Radars: Ground-based radars specifically tuned to detect small, low-flying unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).
- Directed-Energy Weapons: High-energy lasers or microwaves that can disable drones by overheating their electronics.
- Interceptor Drones: “Drone vs. drone” systems that physically capture or collide with hostile drones.
- Net Guns and Cannon Systems: Projectile-based systems that entangle or shoot down drones with nets or kinetic impact.
- Acoustic and Optical Sensors: Used for early detection based on drone noise or visual signatures.
