Agreement between India and Taiwan for Organic Products
About: The Mutual Recognition Agreement (MRA) for organic products between India and Taiwan was implemented on 8 July 2024.
About the Agreement
- Implementing Agencies for the MRA are Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), Ministry of Commerce and Industry.
- MRA between India and Taiwan is a landmark achievement as it is the first bilateral agreement for organic products.
- Under this agreement, NPOP-certified organic products can be sold in Taiwan with the “India Organic” logo, and Taiwan-certified organic products can be sold in India with the “Taiwan Organic” logo.
- The mutual recognition agreement will simplify organic product exports by avoiding dual certifications, reducing compliance costs, and enhancing trade opportunities.
- It will also facilitate the export of major Indian organic products like rice, processed food, tea, and medicinal plant products to Taiwan.
