The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) successfully concluded the first phase of its longitudinal health monitoring project, ‘Phenome India-CSIR Health Cohort Knowledgebase’ (PI-CHeCK).

About Phenome India project
- Objective: To develop risk prediction tools and contribute to precision health and medicine for the Indian population.
- Scope: The study focuses on non-communicable (cardio-metabolic) diseases, including diabetes, liver diseases, and cardiac conditions.
- Sample Collection: Nearly 10,000 participants, including CSIR employees, pensioners, and their spouses from 17 states and 24 cities, have volunteered to provide comprehensive health data.

- Clinical questionnaires
- Lifestyle and dietary habits
- Anthropometric measurements
- Imaging/scanning data

- Standard Operating Procedures: CSIR has developed cost-effective methods for sample collection, encouraging other organisations to contribute to large-scale data collection.
- Future Goals:
- Extensive Sample Collection: Aims to collect up to 1 lakh or 10 lakh samples for more accurate and comprehensive risk assessment.
- Nationwide Initiatives: Encourages similar health monitoring projects across India to improve the accuracy and representation of risk prediction algorithms.
