78th Independence Day Celebration

Context:

The Union Minister for Education engaged with students, teachers, and parents of PM SHRI Schools, as well as alumni of the Prerana Programmes. This special event took place during the 78th Independence Day celebrations in New Delhi.

He conveyed confidence in India’s future, stating that the government prioritises empowering and providing diverse opportunities to the “Amrit Peedhi” (Golden Generation) of the country.

 

About Programmes:

PM SHRI Schools:

      • A centrally sponsored initiative by the Government of India, also known as PM Schools for Rising India
      • Objective: To develop over 14,500 schools managed by the Central Government, State/UT Governments, or local bodies, including Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs) and Navodaya Vidyalayas (NVs).
      • The goal is to ensure every student feels welcomed, experiences a safe learning environment, and has access to a wide range of educational resources.
      • The scheme is set to be implemented over 5 years, from 2022-23 to 2026-27.
      • PM SHRI Schools 2022 will serve as exemplars for the implementation of the National Education Policy 2020.

 

Prerana Programme:

  • Prerana is a week-long residential program for selected students from class IX to XII.
  • It offers an experiential and inspirational learning experience, combining advanced technology with heritage.
  • The program encompasses nine themes across eight classrooms, each designed to explore different aspects of personal and social values.
  • Held at a historic vernacular school in Vadnagar, Gujarat, established in 1888.
  • The program includes a weekly batch of 20 students (10 boys and 10 girls) from across India.
  • The school symbolises the resilience and rich heritage of Vadnagar, a city that has overcome numerous challenges and is home to ancient heritage sites.
