Context:
- The Union Minister for Communications and Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) launched the official website for the much-anticipated Ashtalakshmi Mahotsav.
- The launch event took place at Sanchar Bhawan, New Delhi, on September 13, 2024, underscoring the government’s commitment to promoting the Northeast’s vast potential on both national and global stages.
Key Highlights:
- The Ashtalakshmi Mahotsav, scheduled from December 6th to 8th, 2024, at Bharat Mandapam, Pragati Maidan, New Delhi.
- It will highlight the Northeast’s rich culture and boost economic growth by creating opportunities for local artisans, weavers, and entrepreneurs.
- The festival draws inspiration from the eight Northeastern states—Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, and Tripura—collectively known as “Ashtalakshmi,” which symbolise eight forms of prosperity.
Event Features:
- Textile and Craft Pavilions: Dedicated spaces showcasing the region’s celebrated Muga and Eri Silks, as well as live demonstrations of traditional artisanal crafts.
- Geographical Indication (GI) Products: A special focus on products unique to the Northeast, recognised for their distinct quality and heritage.
- Fashion Show and Design Conclave: Events that will highlight the region’s innovative and traditional fashion.
- Buyer-Seller Meet: The event will build long-term business relationships between Northeast India’s artisans and buyers.
- Investment Round Table: Investors will discuss investment opportunities in textiles, handicrafts, agriculture, and tourism with government officials and entrepreneurs.
