Context:
South Korea, India, the United States, Japan, and the European Union (EU) have come together to launch an alliance to put joint efforts into building a resilient supply chain in the biopharmaceutical sector.

- The inaugural meeting of the Biopharmaceutical Alliance, held in San Diego during the Bio International Convention 2024.
- Participants emphasised the importance of a reliable supply chain and pledged to align bio policies, regulations, and R&D support.
- They acknowledged the concentration of key raw material production and vowed to create a detailed pharmaceutical supply chain map through collaboration.
About Biopharmaceutical Alliance:
- Initially launched by South Korea and the U.S. during discussions on emerging technologies in December, it expanded to include Japan, India, and the EU.
- The alliance was formed in response to drug supply shortages during the Covid-19 pandemic.
