Context:

Coal India Limited (CIL) has launched a new Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative named CIL ASHIS (Ayushman Shiksha Sahayata) aimed at supporting children who have lost their parents to COVID-19

The initiative was unveiled at a special event held at the Supreme Court of India, which coincided with the court’s 75th anniversary celebrations.

 

Key Highlights:

  • Objective: To provide scholarships and compassionate appointments to families affected by COVID-19.
  • Scholarship Scheme: To provide financial assistance to children. Identified by various High Courts based on available records.
  • Number of Beneficiaries: 1,645 children.
  • Scholarship Amount: ₹45,000 per child per year.
  • Duration: Scholarships will be awarded for four years to help these children complete their studies.
  • Compassionate Appointments: To offer employment to the families of deceased employees who lost their lives while in service.
  • Number of Beneficiaries: 424 letters were issued.
  • These jobs aim to provide support to families during times of distress.
