Commonwealth Local Government Forum (CLGF) Annual Board Meeting in Sri Lanka
Context: Dr. Chandra Shekhar Kumar, Additional Secretary, is representing India at the three-day CLGF Annual Board meeting in Colombo, Sri Lanka.

Commonwealth Local Government Forum (CLGF):
- Established in 1995, it is a large, international network in itself which facilities its four areas of activities:
- Advocacy, Programmes, Knowledge and research, Exchange networks.
- It gained endorsement from Commonwealth Heads of Government at their meeting in New Zealand and subsequent gatherings.
- Recognized officially in 2003 as a Commonwealth-associated organisation.
- It maintains framework partnerships with the European Union and endorsements from UN agencies.
- This enhances its influence on policy and leadership in democracy initiatives.
- It is governed by the CLGF Board which is elected every two years at the General Meeting of members.
- The Board is the main decision-making body of CLGF and meets formally, once a year.
- CLGF promotes local democracy, capacity building, and service delivery improvement across 56 Commonwealth countries.
- It also advocates for sustainable development and empowering local communities.
- It focuses on empowering women in public life and achieving gender equality in local governance.
- Aligned with SDG 5 (Gender equality and empowering all women and girls).
- Through conferences, technical assistance, research, and peer support, CLGF fosters the exchange of best practices in local government policy, structure, and services.
