The Chhattisgarh government has announced the creation of a new tiger reserve encompassing parts of Guru Ghasidas National Park and Tamor Pingla Wildlife Sanctuary.

About Guru Ghasidas-Tamor Pingla Tiger Reserve:
- Objectives: To boost eco-tourism and create employment for local villagers as guides, tourist vehicle operators, and resort managers.
- This will be the state’s fourth tiger reserve.
- The reserve will cover 2,829.387 sq km.
- The reserve will encompass regions from the Guru Ghasidas National Park and the Tamor Pingla Sanctuary, covering the districts of Manendragarh-Chirmiri-Bharatpur, Korea, Surajpur, and Balrampur.
- The reserve will act as a corridor connecting Bandhavgarh (Madhya Pradesh) and Palamu (Jharkhand) tiger reserves.
- Existing Reserves: The state currently has three tiger reserves: Indravati (Bijapur district), Udanti-Sitanadi (Gariaband), and Achanakmar (Mungeli).
- Fauna: Tiger, Leopard, Chital, Nilgai, Chinkara, Jackal, Sambar, Four-horned Antelope etc.
- Flora: Mixed deciduous forest with teak, sal and bamboo trees.
- It is the source of major rivers like the Hasdeo, Gopad, and Baranga and also serves as a catchment area for rivers including the Neur, Bijadhur, Banas, and Rehand, as well as several smaller streams and rivulets.
