Russia signed a “comprehensive strategic” partnership deal with North Korea to strengthen their security ties against the Western-dominated world order.

 

About North Korea: 

  • Location:
    • It is located in East Asia on the northern portion of the Korean peninsula.
    • It is situated between the East Sea (Sea of Japan) and the Yellow Sea.
  • Borders:
    • China and Russia to the north.
    • Republic of Korea (South Korea) to the south.
  • Capital: Pyongyang
  • Longest river: Yalu river, in Korean called the Amnok
  • Other rivers:  Tumen River, Chongchon River, Taedong River, Chaeryeong River, and Yesong River (all draining into the Yellow Sea).
  • Mount Paektu: It is the highest mountain in North Korea and the entire Korean peninsula. 
    • It is an extinct volcano, located in the Changbaek (Changbai) Mountains near the border between North Korea and China. 
  • Demilitarized Zone (DMZ): North Korea faces South Korea across a 2.5-mile-wide (4 km) DMZ extending approximately 150 miles (240 km).
    • It follows roughly latitude 38° N (the 38th parallel).
    • It extends from the mouth of the Han River on the west coast to just south of the North Korean town of Kosong on the east coast.
