Context:
The Union Cabinet has approved a package to provide up to ₹5 lakh to tribal households and villages for developing tourist homestays under the Swadesh Darshan scheme.

About PMJUGA:

- The PMJUGA covers 63,000 tribal-majority villages across 549 districts and 2,740 blocks in 30 states and Union territories.
- The program aims to address critical gaps in social infrastructure, health, education, and livelihood through 25 interventions implemented by 17 line ministries.
Components:
- Enabling Infrastructure: Eligible tribal households will gain access to pucca houses under the PMAY (Gramin) and benefits from the Jal Jeevan Mission (water supply) and RDSS (electricity).
- Village Connectivity: Ensure all-weather roads, mobile connectivity, and improved health and education infrastructure.
- Economic Empowerment: Access to training under the Skill India Mission and opportunities for self-employment.
- Marketing Support: Establish Tribal Multipurpose Marketing Centres (TMMCs) and promote tourism through homestays.
- Universal Access to Education: Increase Gross Enrollment Ratio (GER) in schools and higher education by establishing tribal hostels.
- Health Improvements: Enhance quality healthcare access for tribal households and reduce infant and maternal mortality rates through Mobile Medical Units.
Features of the Abhiyan:
- Tribal Homestays: Promote 1,000 homestays in tourist-friendly villages, providing ₹5 lakh for new constructions and ₹3 lakh for renovations.
- Forest Rights Act (FRA) Support: Focus on 22 lakh FRA patta holders with schemes for sustainable livelihoods and forest conservation.
- Infrastructure Development: Upgrade government residential schools and hostels to improve education in remote tribal areas.
- Sickle Cell Disease Management: Establish Centers of Competence (CoC) for affordable diagnostics and management of sickle cell disease.
