RPF Launches Sangyaan App

Context:

Recently the Director General of Railway Protection Force (RPF) launched the mobile application-Sangyaan App, to provide in-depth information on three new Criminal Acts.

  • The app is designed by the RPF Tech Team.
  • It focuses on providing detailed information on three new Criminal Acts: 
    • Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS) 2023, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) 2023, and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA) 2023.
  • Aims to educate and empower RPF Personnel by explaining both new and old criminal laws.
    • Emphasises the relevance of these laws in RPF operations.
  • Features include user-friendly navigation, a searchable database, and offline access.
  • Also released a ‘Handbook on Bhartiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023.
  • The mobile app and the handbook reflect the commitment of RPF to transparency, accessibility and the dissemination of crucial legal information.

  • Section-wise Analysis: Analyses key sections of BNSS and BNS in detail.
    • Focuses on their applicability in field operations and procedural perspectives.
  • Advanced Search Tools: Allows users to navigate section-wise, chapter-wise, and subject-wise and Facilitates quick access to relevant information.
  • Inclusive Legal Database: Includes essential legal acts and rules related to railway security:
    • Ensures comprehensive access to critical legal information relevant to railway protection.
  • User-Friendly Design: Enables efficient engagement with critical legal information and Enhances understanding and application of laws in RPF operations.

About the Introduction of Three New Bills:

  • These three outgoing laws were made to strengthen and protect British rule and their purpose was to punish, not to give justice.
    • The laws are designed to embody India’s sovereignty and prioritise justice over mere punishment.
  • Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita Bill, 2023: 
  • Replaces the Indian Penal Code with a focus on justice and rights protection, reducing sections from 511 to 356, with 175 sections revised and 8 new sections added.
  • Bhartiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita Bill, 2023: 
  • Replaces the Criminal Procedure Code with enhanced citizen-centric governance, comprising 533 sections with 160 sections amended, 9 new sections, and 9 repealed sections.
  • Bharatiya Sakshya Bill, 2023: 
  • Replaces the Indian Evidence Act, incorporating modern definitions and practices, totaling 170 sections, with 23 sections amended, 1 new section added, and 5 sections repealed.
