India’s first fashion forecasting initiative ‘VisioNxt’

Context:

Union Minister of Textiles launched the ‘VisioNxt Fashion Forecasting Initiative,’ a bilingual web portal developed by the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), along with India’s first fashion trend book, ‘Paridhi 24×25’. The trend book, ‘Paridhi,’ introduces India’s first inclusive fashion trend forecast.

About VisioNxt

  • At the 2017 Global Textile Summit, the Prime Minister pointed out the lack of India-specific real-time fashion trend insights. 
  • This led to the creation of VisioNxt in 2018 at NIFT’s Creative Lab in Delhi and Insights Lab in Chennai, supported by the Ministry of Textiles. 
  • Now centralised in Chennai, VisioNxt focuses on forecasting trends for the Indian fashion and retail market, offering consultancy services, courses, and workshops.
  • VisioNxt is the first Indian initiative to combine AI and EI to analyse geo-specific trends that reflect India’s cultural diversity and socio-economic dynamics. 
  • This initiative reduces reliance on global forecasting agencies and delivers unique insights into Indian fashion consumers, blending India’s strengths in textiles and technology.
  • Available in both Hindi and English through the VisioNxt portal (www.visionxt.in), the platform supports weavers, manufacturers, designers, retailers, and fashion brands in producing consumer-focused collections. 
  • VisioNxt’s deep learning model, “DeepVision,” uses convolutional neural networks to predict fashion trends in India by analysing over 70,000 primary and 280,000 secondary apparel images. 
  • The model identifies detailed product attributes, such as style, colour, and regional influences, for both Indian and Western wear. 
  • This AI-driven initiative strengthens India’s fashion identity on the global stage and reduces dependence on international trend agencies.
