At least one person has died after a major wildfire broke out near Athens on Sunday. While authorities say the fires are mostly under control, a few “scattered hot spots” remain and could reignite later in the week.

      • Mount Olympus, with an elevation of 2,918 meters, is the highest mountain in Greece.
  • Greece hosts a chain of ancient volcanoes, including those on the islands of Kos, Methana, Milos, Nisyros, Poros, and Santorini.
