Prime Minister Internship Scheme (PMIS) Round 2

Context:

The Prime Minister Internship Scheme (PMIS) is back with Round 2 of the pilot phase, offering an exciting opportunity for Indian youth to gain practical work experience and enhance their employability. 

  • After the overwhelming response in Round 1 with over 6 lakh applications, Round 2 is offering more than 1 lakh internships across over 730 districts in India.

  • Youth can explore internships based on their preferred district, state, and sector.
  • The scheme allows applicants to apply to up to 3 internships before the deadline.

What is the PM Internship Scheme?

  • Announced in the 2024-25 Union Budget by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.
  • Aims to provide industry-relevant training to India’s youth.
  • Offers 1.25 lakh+ internships across 745 districts in 25 diverse sectors.
  • Overseen by the Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA).
  • PMIS Portal Opened on October 3, 2024, for companies to register opportunities.
  • Young applicants could apply for up to five internships in their home state or any other state.

  • The Prime Minister Internship Scheme aims to provide the youth with hands-on experience in the real-world setting, help them develop skills, build professional networks, and increase their chances of gaining employment in the future. 
  • It is a great stepping stone for young individuals looking to launch their careers.

Eligibility Criteria

  • The scheme targets individuals aged 21 to 24 who are not enrolled in any full-time academic program or employed.
  • The scheme aims to provide these youth with a platform to enhance their career prospects and gain valuable work experience.

Key Features of PMIS Round 2

  • 1 Lakh+ Internship Opportunities: Internships are available across a wide range of sectors including Oil, Gas & Energy, Banking & Financial Services, FMCG, Travel & Hospitality, and more.
  • 300+ Companies Participating: Leading companies across various industries have partnered to offer valuable internship experiences to the youth.
  • Customisable Filters: Applicants can choose internships based on district, state, sector, and area and can apply to internships within a specific radius from their address.
  • Application Limit: Applicants can apply to a maximum of three internships in Round 2.
  • IEC Events: More than 70 Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) events will be held in districts with the highest internship opportunities. These events will be held at colleges, universities, ITIs, and Rozgar Melas to help spread awareness and assist with applications.

Benefits

  • Financial Support: Interns will receive ₹5,000 per month as financial assistance and a one-time payment of ₹6,000.
  • Duration: Each internship is designed to last 12 months with at least six months of relevant training and professional work experience.
