Ideas4LiFE portal

  • The Ideas4LiFE portal allows participants to submit their innovative ideas online
  • Winning ideas will be recognised and awarded across seven themes of Mission  Lifestyle for Environment (LiFE).

Mission Lifestyle for Environment (LiFE):

  • The concept of ‘Lifestyle for the Environment (LiFE)‘ was introduced by the Prime Minister in November, 2021, at 26th Conference of the Parties (COP26) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), in Glasgow.
  • It is an India-led global movement encouraging individual and community actions to safeguard and preserve the environment.
  • It recognises the inherent sustainability of Indian culture and traditions
    • “Mata Bhumi Putroham Prithivyah ” i.e Earth is my mother & I am her son.
  • Ancient scriptures emphasise conserving natural resources and living in harmony with nature.
  • It aims to tap into this ancient wisdom and spread the message widely, channelling individual and community efforts into a global mass movement for positive behavioural change.
  • It seeks to address the ‘wants’ of the people without letting them hurt Nature.
  • It encompasses a comprehensive but non-exhaustive list of 75 LiFE Actions for adoption by individuals to live more sustainably.
  • Three Phases of Mission LiFE:
    • Change in Demand (Phase I): Encourages individuals globally to adopt simple, eco-friendly actions in their daily lives.
    • Change in Supply (Phase II): Increased individual demand for sustainability will prompt industries and markets to adjust their supply and procurement processes.
    • Change in Policy (Phase III): Aims to influence demand and supply dynamics to trigger shifts in industrial and government policies, supporting sustainable consumption and production worldwide.

Do You Know?

  • The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) highlights that if 1 bn people out of the global population adopt eco-friendly behaviours, global carbon emissions could decrease by around 20%.
  • Changing our lifestyle, however, is not easy. In this context, the LiFE 21-Day Challenge encourages Indians to adopt one simple eco-friendly action each day for 21 days
    • It aims to foster a sustainable lifestyle and become Pro Planet People.
