Context:
India is providing humanitarian aid to Cuba through a shipment of approximately 90 tonnes of nine different Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs) made in India.
More on news:
- Cuban drug manufacturers will use these APIs to produce essential antibiotics in various forms, including tablets, capsules, syrups, and injections, to treat chronic communicable diseases.
- The Indian government stated that this assistance highlights India’s role as the “Pharmacy of the World” and emphasises the longstanding friendship with Cuba.
About Cuba:
- Cuba is the largest island in the Caribbean Sea, nicknamed “Pearl of the Antilles.”
- Cuba and its neighbours form the Greater Antilles, a chain of islands created millions of years ago when two of Earth’s tectonic plates collided.
