Sangam-Digital Twin Initiative

Context:

Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi successfully hosted the first Networking Event of Department of Telecommunications (DoT)’s Sangam – Digital Twin initiative.

More on News

  • The event brought out comprehensive blueprints for Digital Twin-enabled solutions, addressing challenges and leveraging diverse data sources.
  • These will guide the design of solutions, define roles, identify customers, outline funding, establish governance mechanisms, and create implementation roadmaps.

decade of change in data and processing

About Sangam – Digital Twin initiative

  • DoT unveiled it as an unparalleled venture inviting Expressions of Interest (EoI) from industry pioneers, startups, MSMEs, academia, innovators, etc.
  • It is a Proof of Concept (PoC) distributed in two stages to be conducted in one of the major cities of India.
  • First stage is exploratory for clarity of horizon and creative Exploration to unleash potential.
  • Second stage demonstrates specific use cases generating a blueprint for scaling successful strategies in future infrastructure projects through collaboration.
  • It builds upon the last decade’s advancements in communication, computation, and sensing, amidst the tech-driven era aiming towards the vision of 2047.
  • It aims to revolutionise infrastructure planning and design through cutting-edge technologies (5G, IoT, AI, AR/VR, AI-native 6G, Digital Twin) fostering collective intelligence and collaboration.

Digital Twin technology:

  • It offers solutions by creating virtual replicas of physical assets
    • It allows real-time monitoring, simulation and analysis and feedback loop for best outcomes.

Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI):

  • DPI refers to the network of digital building blocks that are needed to deliver public services across sectors.
  • It includes platforms like Digital Identification, Payment Infrastructure, and Data Exchange Solutions, which facilitate service delivery.
  • India has achieved significant economic development through its India Stack, now known as India Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI).
  • Leading in technology adoption, India has pioneered the development of three foundational DPIs:
    • Digital Identity (Aadhaar), Real-time payments (UPI), Account Aggregator, based on the Data Empowerment and Protection Architecture (DEPA).
